Title: Romancing the Ranger
Release date:  March 14th, 2016
Author: Jennie Marts
Entangled

About the book:

Reese Hudson meant to destroy mementos from her last failed relationship, not burn down an outhouse and incur the wrath of a sexy park ranger. When the judge rejects her offer to pay for the structure and sentences her to rebuild it—with the hot ranger supervising—she embraces the challenge to take control of her life.

Park ranger Wade Baker wants nothing to do with the rich city girl, no matter how tempting he finds her lush curves. She’s too much like his ex-fiancée, and if he’s learned anything, it’s that women like Reese don’t fit into his world. And he sure as hell wants no part of her big city life.

Reese may not know a hammer from a screwdriver, but she’s working hard to prove she’s not just some pampered princess to be toyed with. And damn it if Wade doesn’t admire her tenacious spirit. If only they got along half as well outside the bedroom as they do in it, there might be a chance for them after all…

Excerpt:

“So what were you so intent on destroying yesterday that you almost burned my park down?”
A faint blush crept up her neck. “Some stupid mementos from my ex-boyfriend.”
“When did you break up?”
She consulted her watch. “About twenty-four hours ago.”
“Ah. You seemed more angry than broken-hearted. Did he choose someone else?”
“Yeah, himself.” She let out a sigh. “Brock cared more about himself than he did me. His needs always came first, and then he told me what I needed. It took me a long time to see that I have my own wants. My own needs. And he wasn’t one of them. Neither he nor my father are very happy about my decision.”
Wade’s gut twisted as she spoke the words wants and needs. He’d known her such a short time, but he knew he wanted her already.
But needing her was a different story. He definitely did not need the complication of a woman on the rebound. A woman who lived a lifestyle that he couldn’t even comprehend.
A spray of water shot from the falls, and Reese laughed and stepped back into him. His arms came up to steady her and then she was twisting, tipping her head up, her emerald- colored eyes shining with an invitation to take her.
And it was too much.
He pulled her to him, crushing her lips and filling his hands with her sweet, lush body.
She pressed against him, wrapping her arms around his neck and matching his desire with hers. She tasted like mint and smelled like summer.
And she felt so damn good.
Desire engulfed him, and he yearned to lay her in the grass and get her beneath him. To explore and touch her exquisite body. He ran his hands down her back, pulling her closer as he feasted on her mouth, giving way to the brazen thoughts that had consumed him all day.
He slid one hand up the back of her shirt. She moaned against his mouth, arching her back and pressing her breasts up. Her skin was soft, and he wanted to rip her shirt from her body and feel her bare flesh against his.
The scuffs of hiking boots in the dirt interrupted his thoughts, and he broke away from Reese as a couple of middle-aged women rounded the corner to the overlook.
Breathing hard, he nodded at the hikers, then turned toward the falls to hide his obvious arousal.

The women passed, and one gave him a knowing smile. She leaned into her companion as they walked by. “That’s the kind of ranger I’d like to teach me about some birds and some bees.”

My thoughts:

4 “Small town sexy romance” STARS

ARC via Netgalley

Thank you, Entangled!!

Isn’t it simply amazing when you find a book and it’s exactly what you needed to read at that moment? That’s what happened with Romancing the Ranger.

I remember going through Netgalley’s list looking for a good romance book, preferably set in a small town and I found this new Entangled title. The cover was pretty and the blurb made it clear it was pretty close to what I wanted at that moment. I’m so happy the rest of the book didn’t disappoint.

So… This is Reese’s story. The daughter of a CEO, Reese lives the life her overprotective father planned for her, which means she doesn’t get to decide much. At first, Reese believes she’s fine with it. It’s easier not to fight her Dad and let him take care of her. After all, he only wants what’s best for her, right? But then Reese realizes she doesn’t only let her father dictate every aspect of her life. She allows other people to do that, too, especially her boyfriend – and that’s why he’s now an ex.

Looking for some time away from the pressure surrounding her, Reese travels to the small town where her grandparents used to live. There, she tries to burn (literally) some of the memories from her last relationship and ends up destroying an outhouse. Oh, well, thank God for Wade, the park ranger that gets there in time to save her and stop her from setting the whole place on fire.

Sexy park ranger Wade isn’t too happy to see her, though. The woman is trouble and he can see that from the moment he looks at her. She’s also the exact type of woman he should avoid. The last time he tried to have a relationship with a woman that worn design clothes, he ended up buried in debts. But you and I know he won’t resist Reese, because she’s pretty great.

Jennie Marts did an amazing job writing a likable main character who is rich, but doesn’t go around rubbing her money in people’s faces. I think it’s always a risk to right a rich main character because people tend to find them obnoxious for the simple fact that they have a lot of money, but the author found a way to make Reese relatable. *claps hands*

And Wade… Poor guy did not want to fall for Reese, but he had no chance. Not when Reese decided to stop being pushed around and started making decisions about her life and what she wanted out of it. I LOVED how she wasn’t afraid to go after what she wanted (Wade). So often girls are scared to put themselves out there, but that wasn’t Reese.

My biggest criticism would be Wade’s character development, though. While Reese learned so much about herself and what she could/wanted to do, I felt like Wade was still too attached to his fears. He didn’t really let them go. I wanted to see him come to the conclusion that he was good enough, even though he didn’t have much money or couldn’t offer a woman a luxurious life. I needed it to be clear that he understood that. Because he was sweet and kind, he loved dogs (that’s like mandatory in my book) and he respected Reese’s dreams and aspirations. He didn’t need money. He was everything a girl wanted. It wasn’t like he didn’t have a job or whatever. He just wasn’t rich and by the end he should’ve known he didn’t need to be.

Well… I truly enjoyed these characters, their story and the romance. The sex scenes were not as graphic as in some novels, but it was still pretty hot. Above all, it was sweet. Really sweet. And Reese has a dog. Did I mention I LOVE dogs? So, yeah. It was a pretty safe bet that I’d love this book.
